History

Fribev’s history began with the passion of Luiz Arsênio Caldas Tavares da Silva, from Pernambuco, for raising cattle. Although he was the son of industrialist and engineer João Carvalho Tavares da Silva, Luiz Arsênio developed a taste for livestock in the 1960s, alongside his friend João Teobaldo de Azevedo, from whom he acquired his first female Gir cattle, at the Campo Grande Farm, in the municipality of Limoeiro, Pernambuco.

In the following decade, following the recommendation of the late João Teobaldo, he founded Fazenda Bela Vista, purchasing the first Nelore cattle from the bred cattle of Miguel Vita from Bahia, recently imported from India in 1962. The bulls Pajo (Akazamu), Rolando (Padhu) and 20 dams arrived, including Rina (Kavardi) and Noélia (Akazamu). The bull Pajo became Reserve Grand Champion at the 1975 Northeastern Animal Show.

The beginning of the herd with the LA brand of the Nelore breed was given in Pernambuco, a cattle with Akazamu, Padhu and Kavardi lineage, bastions of the Nelore breed.

As the years went by, the production of calves increased and the need to expand land to support the herd arose. Other farms followed, always in Pernambuco. Not only his fear of flying, but mainly his love for the traditions and roots of his state, always made him invest here. The Caieiras Farm, Japaranduba Farm, Rancharia Farm, Lagoa dos Patos Farm, Salobro Farm, Riachão Farm, Esperança Farm and Machado Farm in the municipalities of Riacho das Almas, Barra de Guabiraba, Sairé, Sertânia, Custódia, Ibimirim and Lagoa do Carro, respectively, were established to raise Nelore cattle.

As the cattle ranch grew and expanded to other farms, Luiz Arsênio began to rely on the involvement of his three sons in the business. One of them, Luís Arsênio Filho, saw the difficulty in selling finished cattle on his farms and decided to create a small beef distribution business in the metropolitan area of Recife, a huge consumer. He then created the Frigorífico Bela Vista (Fribev) brand, in homage to his father’s first farm.

The slaughtering, which continues to this day, is carried out at the State Slaughterhouse in the municipality of Escada-PE. The meat and offal are processed at the warehouse in the municipality of Cabo de Santo Agostinho-PE and distributed throughout the state. To this end, we rely on cattle from the Bela Vista breeding site and also on the partnership of our cattle ranching friends.

Shortly after the distributorship was founded, Luís Arsênio Neto joined his father to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather in the 1960s.
With Luís Arsênio Neto joining the FRIBEV operation, we took a step further than we had imagined. In April 2019, we also began operating in Xinguara, a city in southern Pará known as the “capital of beef cattle,” a plant with a slaughter capacity of 850 head/day, with export authorizations to several countries, in addition to serving the domestic market in all states of the Federation. This expansion generated more than 600 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect jobs.

Today, we continue to work hard for the advancement of agribusiness in Brazil, especially our livestock industry. A dream that becomes reality with each working day.

The Farm

It was at Fazenda Bela Vista, in the municipality of Carpina-PE, that our founder, Luís Arsênio, grew up and developed his passion for cattle breeding. It was there in the farm’s pastures that he also learned to respect animals. It is from this land that carries great emotional memories, having been in the family for generations, that we created FRIBEV with all dedication and commitment, which provides quality animal protein for your entire family.
